AustinGold surged 1.1% to close at a 10-day high of $1,311.50 on safe-haven inflows after a new round of threats between President Trump and North Korea fueled geopolitical jitters.
Saying the US has effectively declared war,North Korea threatened today to shoot down American jets even if they are not in its airspace.
The newest escalation in warlike rhetoric came after Trump tweeted over the weekend that Kim Jong Il "won't be around much longer" if he acts on earlier threats. The two leaders exchanged a series personal insults and promises of nuclear annihilation last week, ratcheting up international anxiety.
Equities rolled back and Treasury prices rose as investors shifted from risk to safety. The Dow and S&P 500 fell 0.2% while Nasdaq dropped 0.8%.
Germany's election on Sunday The other precious metals were mostly higher, with silver and platinum gaining 1% and 0.9%, respectively, while palladium lost 1.2%.
At the Comex close: December gold surged $14 to $1,311.50; December silver gained 17 cents to $17.15; October platinum rose $8.10 to $940.20; and December palladium dropped $9.15 to $909.70 an ounce.
