Austin— Precious metals were relatively quiet Tuesday as traders looked forward to the conclusion of the latest Fed meeting Wednesday. With no rate hike anticipated and no press conference following the conclusion of the meeting, the only wild card from the Fed is whether they offer forward guidance on the reduction of their balance sheet.
The dollar was quiet as well, holding steady at just over 94 on the U.S. dollar index, little changed from yesterday. On the month, however, the dollar is down 1.7%.
At the Comex close: August gold slipped $2.20 to $1,252.10; September silver gained 10 cents, to $16.54; October platinum fell 50 cents to $931.80; and September palladium gained $7.90 to $856.95 an ounce.
